US ver: We Owned the Self-Tanning Scene and Now It’s Suncare’s Turn

Guess who’s entered the SPF chat? We have! That's right – after many months of formulating, testing and refining, we’ve finally released our advanced Aussie-made suncare range into the wild with the launch of our Body Sunscreen SPF50+. It's a moment we've been waiting for since we launched Coco and Eve in 2018 – and we're officially the proudest parents in town!

It is no surprise to us that our self-tan went viral - we always knew it was amazing! But from the start, a sunscreen range - just as amazing - was always part of the plan. However, we didn't want to just create your bog-standard SPF. Instead, we wanted to make super-protective, skin-loving suncare products that are lovely for everyday use. And we (and many others) think we've succeeded!

To discover why we feel so passionate about tackling sun protection and why our products really are the cream of the crop, read on.

If you want smooth, even, healthy-looking skin, the one product you should use every day is sunscreen. Why? Because if you forget to protect your skin from the sun, not even the very best Vitamin C serum or prescription strength retinol will save you from premature fine lines, dullness and pigmentation - or the nastier skin issues! Nor will the best self-tanning products be able to restore your natural glow.

Regardless of your skin type, colouring or the hemisphere you call home, a broad-spectrum, high-SPF sunscreen is your skin’s BFF. Its most important role is obviously to protect you from nasty sunburns, melanoma and other forms of skin cancer. However, it’s also vital if you want to prevent sun-induced photo-ageing – and let’s face it, that’s all of us!

Not-so-fun sun-related fact: UV radiation, especially from UVA rays, is the no 1 cause of premature ageing. With a longer wavelength than burning UVB, UVA radiation is particularly sneaky as it penetrates more deeply and is as strong in winter as it is in summer.

So, if you want to preserve that youthful glow, a broad-spectrum sunscreen (that protects against UVA as well as UVB) should be the staple of your everyday morning routine.

But, while sun protection is vital, it should never feel like a chore. Instead of being an inconvenience (like flossing), it should be something you enjoy incorporating into your day – or else we know you'll never do it! We’ve managed to make face SPF a daily thing - now we need to give our body the same love.

We wanted to create lovely, lightweight, easy-to-apply SPF products that deliver world-class protection without even a hint of that chemical smell. They also had to be fast-absorbing and not sticky with an invisible finish and no white cast.

We were also determined our suncare products would have real skincare benefits – hydrating and soothing the skin as they protected against sun damage and premature ageing. So we formulated our Body Sunscreen with healing and hydrating aloe vera, antioxidant Vitamin E and our signature coconut to nourish, smooth and diminish the look of fine lines. Talk about a multitasker!

Benefits of Coco & Eve's Australian-made sunscreen

Formulated in Australia, our SPF products were crafted with the highest standard of protection so you can enjoy being confident under the sun. Why are Aussie sunscreens so great? Because they’re made under the world’s strictest regulations as they are actually viewed as a drug. The sun is especially harsh Down Under and the outdoorsy lifestyle and high level of UV exposure adds up to one of the world’s highest skin cancer rates.

As a result, the government takes sunscreen regulation very seriously – with the strictest requirements in most categories. We also use a wider range of advanced UVA filters – meaning our sunscreens are especially good at protecting against photo-ageing.

Everyone! Even if you’re more of an inside person, incidental sun exposure adds up, so routinely using a broad-spectrum sunscreen in the morning (and reapplying throughout the day) is never a bad idea. We’ve painstakingly formulated our products to feel great on the skin, look invisible and be easy to incorporate into your everyday routine with total ease.

Our facial formula has a gorgeous silky finish and is ultra-lightweight and non-greasy, so it’s ideal for all skin types – including oily and acne-prone skin. We’ve also made both our face and body sunscreens without fragrance, so they’re suitable for sensitive skin too!

Where to use your suncare products

Just like it’s best to use a dedicated face tanner (like our Antioxidant Face Tanning Micromist) on your face, we recommend using our products for the area they’re designed for. Facial and body skin is different, so we discourage using our Body Sunscreen on the face as it might clog your pores. But its light, non-greasy formula is perfect for your bod!

For the Body Sunscreen SPF50+: Apply an even layer on clean, dry skin 20 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply the sunscreen after two hours, or more frequently after swimming, sweating or towelling.

Image of how much sunscreen to apply on body

To achieve the SPF listed on the bottle, sunscreen should be applied liberally – probably a lot more liberally than you think! Most of us (including as many as 4 in 5 Australians) aren’t applying enough sunscreen, so let’s clear up the confusion.

For the Body Sunscreen, one shot glass or two tablespoons will be sufficient to cover the limbs and front and back of the body, for most average-sized adults. For the face, neck and ears, we recommend applying the equivalent of two finger lengths (middle and index).

And no matter how much you apply, always remember to reapply every two hours if you’re out and about - particularly if it’s humid.
